TurboformŽ Activity Forming Board
The need for early table activity, combined with drainage
reduction immediately after the slice lip, has led to a new
generation of Forming Board. The TurboformŽ provides a
completely versatile tool for most paper grades and machine
speeds. Its unique concept of interchangeable inserts
provides the sophistication to obtain precisely the
required pattern of drainage
MICRO-TURBULENCE
Water passing through the forming fabric enters the
channels in the TurboformŽ face. The velocity of the
forming fabric and water inrush into the channels
creates an upward pulse, with resultant stock activity.
The degree of micro-activity (micro-turbulence) is
affected by channel width & depth - hence the
interchangeable inserts. Micro-turbulence can be
eliminated by closing the channels back to the flat
condition.
RETARDING THE DRAINAGE
Due to the creation of extra stock activity on the
TurboformŽ blade, it is possible to reduce early wire
losses of fibres & fines, by retaining the jet on the
blade for a longer period, without allowing fibre
resettlement.

MEETING GRADE CHANGES
TurboformŽ easily accommodates grade changes, speed increases, and variations in water volume, by on-the-run substitution of the inserts. Inserts can be colour coded for easy identification.
A single TurboformŽ therefore offers a range of different controllable micro-turbulence options.
TurboformŽ in Action
The following photographs were taken, purely for demonstration purposes, to illustrate the effect and efficiency of the Turboform.
With the paper machine running continuously at the same speed, using the same stock; Turboform's 3 turbulence generator
inserts were changed several times, and the results recorded using stroboscopic photography.
 | | |
| 1. A Turboform with 3 zero-angle turbulence generator inserts cannot induce any activity in stock | | 2. Turbulence generator inserts machined to a very low angle (relative to the plane of the wire) induce minimal activity in the stock |
 | | |
| 3. Turbulence generator inserts machined to a slightly increased angle induce visible, but slight activity in the stock | | 4. Turbulence generator inserts machined to a low-medium angle induce more stock activity |
 | | |
| 5. Inserts with a medium-high angle produce a correspondingly higher degree of stock activity | | 6. High-angle turbulence generator inserts are responsible for the maximum amount of microturbulence |
